Per section 150.0(s), the ESS ready still needs to be installed for future use, including the ADU.
Note: Where a building is designed with an energy storage system, the ready requirement does not apply. It will be added in the 2025 Building Energy Standards (effective 1/1/2026)
Low-rise and high-rise buildings:
According to Section 170.2(h) of the Energy Code, an installed ESS system is not mandatory for low-rise residential buildings; it is only required for buildings with more than three habitable stories.
