210.52 Dwelling Unit Receptacle Code Sections

• Per (210.52(A)(2)(1)) a receptacle is required for any wall space 2 feet or wider, including space around corners, unless interrupted by doorways, fireplaces, or fixed cabinets without countertops.
• Per 210.52(A)(1) Receptacles must be positioned so that no point along the wall is more than 6 feet away from an outlet.

• The maximum distance between receptacles is 12 ft from a receptacle outlet.

• Per 210.52(B) In kitchens, pantries, dining rooms, or similar areas of a home, two or more 20-amp small-appliance circuits must power all wall, floor, countertop outlets, and refrigerators.
  Note: Provide a dedicated circuit for the refrigerator.

• Per 210.52(C) Countertops and Work Surfaces: in kitchens, pantries, dining rooms, and similar areas, receptacle outlets must be installed for countertops and work surfaces that are 12 inches or wider following 210.52(C)(1) through (C)(3).
• (1) Wall Spaces: Receptacle outlets must be installed so no point along the wall is more than 24 inches from an outlet.

• Per 210.52(C)(2) Island and Peninsular Countertops and Work Surfaces:
  (a) Provide at least one outlet for the first 9 square feet of countertop or work surface. Provide an additional outlet for every additional 18 square feet or fraction of that area.

     (b) At least one outlet must be within 2 feet of the outer end of a peninsular countertop or work surface. Additional outlets may be located as determined by the installer, designer, or building owner, and must comply with 210.52(C)(3).

Island and Peninsular receptacle

• Per 210.52(C)(3) Receptacle Outlet Location:
  1- On or above the countertop/work surface, but no more than 20 inches above it.

Receptacle location above and below the countertop or work spaces

• 2- In the countertop/work surface, use outlet assemblies approved.

Receptacle assemblies listed in the countertop

• 3- Below the countertop/work surface, no more than 12 inches below. Outlets should not be placed under a surface that extends more than 6 inches (150 mm) beyond the support base
